Worker Illness Related to Ground Application of Pesticide － Kern County, California, 2005

農薬地域散布に関連した労働者の疾病－カーン・カウンティ、カリフォルニア州、2005年

カリフォルニア州では、疑わしい農薬と労働に関連する疾病あるいは傷害が報告されている。カリフォルニア保健サービス(CDHS)の労働衛生部門では、国立労働安全衛生研究所(NIOSH)とアメリカ環境保護庁(EPA)の支持により、労働関連の農薬に起因する疾病について調査を行っている。2005年5月12日、CDHSは、カリフォルニア農薬規制局(CDPR)から、カーン・カウンティでの農薬による事故発生の報告を受けている。その中には27名の農民（21－61才、中央値：32.5才）と6名の緊急時対応要員（28－51才、中央値：33.5才）が含まれていた。CDHSは現地に出かけ、医学、気象に関する記録を再調査し、さらに被爆者、農薬散布者、農民雇用主に面接することによってこの事件を調査した。労働者は近所の畑で散布されたピレスロイド農薬（cyfluthrin）により病気になったと判明した。27名の農民に共通した症状は、頭痛（96%）、吐き気（89%）、眼の刺激（70%）、筋力衰退（70%）、不安（67%）、息切れ（64%）であった。疾病の重篤性は5名(19%)が中等度、20名(74%)が低位であった。CDHSは急性cyfluthrin曝露に対する持続的効果を可能な限り測定するために、労働者へのフォローアップを実施している。また緊急時対応要員6名の報告によると、肺（4）、皮膚（3）、眼（2）に症状を感じた。疾病の重篤性は6名中4名について低位であった。
