4－17才の子供が自閉症と診断された親の報告－2003～2004年

自閉症は社会的交流やコミュニケーションにおける障害の早期発病に特徴づけられる生涯神経発達障害であり、異常で定型化した行動である。米国の特定地域にあるCDCが実施した集団を基礎とした二つの研究によって、各々子供1,000人に対して3.4、6.7という自閉症スペクトル障害の有病率が報告された。CDCはまたNational Health Interview Survey(NHIS)とNational Survey of Children’s Health(NSCH)を実施しており、親に子供が自閉症の診断を受けたことがあるか質問している。この二つの調査で使用している方法論が類似していることから、CDCは米国における自閉症に関する親の報告から集団を基礎とした有病率を概算するため、さらに子供の社会的、情緒的、行動的強さと困難さ、そして自閉症を持つ子供と持たない子供との特別医療の必要性に関する親の報告を評価するために、NHISから2002－2004年のデータを、NSCHからデータ（2003年1月―2004年7月に収集されたもの）を分析した。この分析結果は報告の中で詳述されている。CDCは親から報告された自閉症診断の有病率について、NHISでは1,000人の子供に対して5.7、NSCHでは5.5と報告した。2003－2004年時点で、自閉症は4－17才における米国の子供の少なくとも300,000人に診断されたことを示している。さらに、自閉症についての親の報告は、社会的、情緒的、行動的症状と専門的必要性に関連していた。このような調査は自閉症の子供の健康、教育、社会事業の必要性を考慮する上で役立つと思われる。
