タバコ依存症治療に対する州メディケイド補償範囲－アメリカ,1994～2001年

アメリカにおいて喫煙は予防可能な主要死因である。2010年に向けての国民健康目標の1つは、メディケイドプログラムにおけるニコチン依存症に対するエビデンスに基づく治療(行動療法とFDA推奨薬物療法)の保険補償を36州から全州およびコロンビア特別区(DC)まで拡大させることである。2000 Public Health Service(PHS)Clinical Practice Guidelineはタバコ依存症治療の保険補償拡大を支持している。2001年、全州とDCは1994年以降のメディケイドプログラムにおけるタバコ依存症治療の補償タイプと補償レベルについて再調査した。タバコ依存症治療に対し一部補償を規定している州は、2000年34から2001年36に増加した。しかし、2000 PHSガイドラインで推奨された全治療オプション(カウンセリング、薬物療法)を補償している州はオレゴン州のみであった。その他35州はなんらかの薬物療法をカバーしていたが、うち16州は患者に医療費の一部負担を要求していた。また禁煙カウンセリングサービスを提供しているのは10州であった。2010年国民健康目標を達成するためには、タバコ依存症治療のメディケイド補償範囲を大幅に拡大する必要がある。
