Update: Severe Respiratory Illness Associated with Middle East Respiratory　Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) － Worldwide, 2012-2013

新型コロナウイルスMERS-CoVは2012年9月以降、ヒトでの感染が報告されており、2013年6月7日現在、WHOに検査室確診例が55例報告されている。発症は2012年4月～2013年5月29日にサウジアラビア、カタール、ヨルダン、アラブ首長国連邦(UAE)の4ヵ国およびこれらの国々から帰国した症例および接触例がイギリス、イタリア、フランス、チュニジアにて認められている。症例は中央値56(2～94)歳、男女比は2.6:1.0、2歳と14歳の2例以外は24歳以上の成人であり、31例が死亡している(致死率56%)。ヨーロッパでの初感染例はフランスの64歳男性であり、ドバイへから帰国1週間後の2013年4月22日に発症、肺炎と診断されたがその後重症呼吸器疾患にて死亡した。2例目はこの症例と同室であった51歳男性であり(現在も生命維持治療下にて入院中)、潜伏期間は9～12日間と推定された。CDCはアラビア半島およびその周辺の国々へ旅行した後、14日以内に急性下気道感染症を発症した場合、CDCへ報告し、ガイドラインに従って鼻咽頭、下気道(喀痰、気管支肺胞や気管支の洗浄、気管内吸引)検体など異なる部位から、異なる時期に検体を採取し、対照となる適切な感染症患者からも検体を採取するよう勧告を出している。検査はCDCにて新型コロナウイルス2012リアルタイムRT-PCR法(NCV-2-12 rRT-PCRアッセイ)により行われている。
