Renewed Transmission of Dracunculiasis － Chad, 2010

メジナ虫症(ギニア虫症)は根絶を目標とした水系寄生虫感染症である。幼虫駆除剤によって汚染された水を処理してメジナ虫症が風土病であるコミュニティに安全な飲料水を提供することにより、チャドでは2000年以降の症例は認められていなかった。2010年、10例の感染がチャド公衆衛生省(MSP)およびWHOにより確認された。これらの症例は5地方8村にて発症し、うち6村はシャリ川に面しており、川の上流では飲料水の感染予防策はとられておらず、2011年には新しい患者が出てくることが予想される。国全体では210村のうち116村(55%)、遊牧民15キャンプのうち13キャンプ（87%）は安全な飲料水ではなく、水源のない村では安全ではない飲料水を摂取していた。また、村の重要な情報提供者の75%はメジナ虫症についての認識があり、55%では予防策を認識、59%ではどのように感染するかを認識していた。メジナ虫症を遮断するには、これら住民へのサーベイランスと予防の取り組み（フィルター配布、教育、症例の封じ込め）が必要である。
