掘削および発掘労働による業務上の死亡者数―アメリカ,1992~2001年
1992―2001年のCensus of Fatal Occupational Injuries(CFOI)データによると、ニューヨーク市を除いた全国における堀削および発掘に関連する死亡者数は542名で、年間死亡者数は平均54名であった。死亡者の年齢中央値は38歳(10代中盤―70代後半)、256名(47%)が従業員10名以下の会社、381名(70%)が50名未満の会社に属し、勤務年数は6.7年(1年未満―40年)で、86名(16%)が1年以下であった。労働内容は発掘工事が最も多く、次いで水道、下水、パイプラインおよび電源供給ライン工事であった。死亡事故の多くは建築現場にて発生しており、441名(76%)の死因は陥没によるものであった。
