Cigarette Smoking Among Adults - United States, 2000

2010年までの国民健康目標の一つは、成人の喫煙率を12%以下に低下させることである。この目標達成に向け、CDCは2000年国民健康インタビュー調査(NHIS)サンプルの成人集団質問票および癌コントロールモジュールの自己報告データを分析した。2000年における成人(18歳以上)の現喫煙率は約23%(推定4,650万人)と1993年(25%)に比べ低下しており、米国成人における有病率のゆるやかではあるが有意な低下を反映した。喫煙率は男性(26%)が女性(21%)より高かった。人種別喫煙率は、アジア系(14%)とラテンアメリカ系(19%)が最低、アメリカインディアン/アラスカ原住民(36%)が最高であった。年齢別では18－24歳と25－44歳が最高(27%)、65歳以上が最低(10%)であった。喫煙経験者は推定4,430万人(22%)であった。喫煙者の70%が禁煙を希望し、41%は前年に禁煙を試みていた。しかし禁煙成功率には人口統計学的グループ間で差がみられ、教育レベルによる禁煙率の差は大きかった(34－74%)。また人種別の禁煙率は白人(51%)が最高、非ラテンアメリカ系黒人(37%)が最低であった。米国における喫煙率をさらに低下させるためには、経済的、臨床的、法的、教育的戦略を含む包括的な禁煙へのアプローチが必要である。
