小学3年生の口腔衛生調査－ニューハンプシャー，2001年

口腔疾患の傾向をモニタリングするベースラインを確立するため、New Hampshire Department of Health and Human ServicesはNew Hampshire Department of Educationと協力して2000－2001年度のニューハンプシャー州の公立小学校3年生を対象とし口腔衛生状態を調査した。スクリーニング調査は、2001年2月から4月に公立学校273校中26校の小学3年生507人中410人(80.8%)を対象として行った。対象小児の98.8%が8歳か9歳であり、50.2%が女児であった。対象小児のうち52.0%はう蝕歴があり、21.7%は未治療う歯があった。また45.9%は少なくとも1本の永久臼歯に歯科用シーラントが用いられていた。小児のうち69.8%は歯に関して明らかな問題はなかったが、25.1%は早期に、5.1%は緊急に治療が必要であった。小児期の虫歯を予防するためには、飲料水へのフッ素添加の促進、歯科用シーラント使用の拡大、歯科医へのアクセス改善について努力する必要がある。
