ギャングの殺人-アメリカ5都市、2003~2008年
アメリカではギャングによる殺人が若者の殺人のかなり多くを占める都市があり、今回、CDCはロサンゼルス、ロングビーチ、オークランド(カリフォルニア州)、オクラホマシティ(オクラホマ州)、ニューアーク(ニュージャージー州)の5都市について、National Violent Death Reporting System(NVDRS)の2003~2008年のデータを分析し、その現状について分析を行った。この期間、これら5都市におけるギャングによる殺人により856名、非ギャングによる殺人により2,077名が死亡しており、15~19歳の若者が占める割合はそれぞれ27~42%、9~14%であった。被害者はギャング、非ギャングともに男性が約80%を占めるが、ギャングによる殺人ではとくにその傾向が強く、ニューアークでは100%、オクラホマシティ、ロスアンゼルスでは95.2%が男性であった。武器はギャングでは90%以上が銃であり(非ギャング:57~86%)、現場は非ギャングでは住居が多いのに対し、ギャングでは路上が多かった。また、時間帯はギャングでは午後~夕方、非ギャングでは夜が多かった。ロサンゼルスとオクラホマシティでは車からの狙撃がギャングによる殺人にて有意に多く、ギャングによる殺人はギャング間の闘争により、公共の場にて銃で短時間に行われることが示唆された。思春期の早い段階でのギャングとの関わり合いを抑止することにより若者の死亡を減少しうるものと思われる。
