Tobacco Use Among Middle and High School Students - New Hampshire, 1995-2001

中学生および高校生における喫煙－ニューハンプシャー，1995～2001年

米国において喫煙は予防可能な死亡の主要原因である。成人喫煙者の80%が未成年で喫煙し始めることから、喫煙開始予防は青少年に集中して行われている。青少年の喫煙傾向を調査するため、New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Servicesは1995－2001年のNew Hampshire Youth Risk Behavior Survey(NHYRBS)とNew Hampshire Youth Tobacco Survey(NHYTS)のデータを分析した。ニューハンプシャー州における中学生および高校生の喫煙率はともに低下傾向がみられた。2001年のNHYTSデータによると高校生の喫煙率は25.3%であり、1995年のNHYRBSデータ(36.0%)よりも有意に低率であった。喫煙率低下は女子生徒と9、11年生で有意であった。またNHYTSデータによると、中学生(7－8年生)の喫煙率は2000年の12.0%から2001年には6.3%に低下した。喫煙率低下は男子生徒と7年生で有意であった。喫煙率が低下した要因として1997－2001年に行われたたばこの値上げ($1.77から$3.53)が考えられた。ニューハンプシャー州の包括的な喫煙予防および抑制プログラムが十分な機能を果たせば、青少年における喫煙率はさらに低下し、成人の喫煙率も低下し始めると考える。
