COVID-19ワクチン接種率 ― 世界保健機関アフリカ地域、2021年～2023年

2021年初頭に承認されたCOVID-19ワクチンが利用可能になったことにより、ワクチン接種はCOVID-19関連の疾病率および死亡率を減少させる有効なツールになった。当初、WHOは2022年半ばまでに世界人口の70％にワクチンを接種するという意欲的な目標を設定したが、2022年7月にアフリカ地域を含むすべての国に対し、疾病率と死亡率に最大の影響を与えるため、高齢者や医療従事者を含むハイリスク層へのCOVID-19ワクチン接種を優先するよう勧告した。2023年12月31日時点で、約8億6,000万回分のCOVID-19ワクチンがアフリカ地域の各国に配送され、6億4,600万回のワクチンが接種され、累計4億4,000万人が1回以上接種した。累積したプライマリー接種シリーズの接種率は、2021年の7％から2022年には26％、2023年には32％に増加した。国別の累積した総人口での1回以上ワクチン接種率は0.3％～89％であった。8カ国(ボツワナ、カーボベルデ、リベリア、モーリシャス、モザンビーク、ルワンダ、セイシェル、シエラレオネ)では、1回以上のCOVID-19ワクチン接種率が70％を超えた(72％～89％)。このうち、リベリア、モーリシャス、ルワンダ、セイシェルでは、プライマリー接種シリーズの接種率も70％以上を達成した(78％～86％)。一方、29カ国(62％)では、総人口に対するプライマリー接種シリーズの接種率は40％未満と報告された。COVID-19のブースター接種に関するデータを報告している40カ国での接種率は21％あり、国によってばらつきが大きかった。22カ国で報告された高齢者層のデータにおけるプライマリー接種シリーズの接種率は52％(15％～96％)、23カ国で報告された医療従事者におけるプライマリーシリーズの接種率は48％(13％～99％)であった。COVID-19の国際的に懸念される公衆衛生上の緊急事態は2023年5月に終息が宣言されたが、現在のWHOの勧告は、重症のCOVID-19疾患や死亡のリスクが最も高い優先集団にワクチン接種を行い、COVID-19ワクチン接種のプライマリヘルスケアへの組み込み、ライフコース全体にわたる予防接種の強化、パンデミックへの準備の改善の統合により、より持続可能なプログラムを構築する必要性を強化している。
