Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Infections Linked to Raw Turkey Products — United States, 2017–2019
生の七面鳥製品に関連したサルモネラ感染症の複数州でのアウトブレイク ― アメリカ、2017年~2019年
2018年から2019年にて、CDC、地域および州の公衆衛生パートナー、アメリカ農務省(USDA)、FDAは、42州およびワシントンDCで発生した七面鳥に関連したサルモネラによる感染症アウトブレイクの356例を調査した。症例の年齢は1歳未満~101歳(年齢中央値42歳)で、性別が判明した336例のうち175例(52%)が男性であった。情報が明らかな300例のうち、132例(44%)が入院し、1例が死亡した。インタビュー調査をした198例のうち132例(67%)は、発症前1週間に七面鳥との直接または間接的な接触があった。123例が生で購入された七面鳥(一羽丸ごと、切り身、挽肉など)を調理または食べており、4例は自宅のペットが七面鳥の生挽肉を使用したペットフードを食べた後に発症し、5例は七面鳥を飼育または加工する施設で働いていたか、そのような施設で働いていた人と同居していた。七面鳥のタイプ、銘柄、感染元は特定されなかった。アウトブレイク株は、生肉の七面鳥製品、生の七面鳥ペットフード、および生きている七面鳥から分離された。2018年7月、CDCとUSDAのFood Safety and Inspection Serviceは、アウトブレイク調査結果をアメリカの七面鳥産業の代表者と共有し、初めてアウトブレイク中に特定の会社ではなく業界グループと協働した。2018年7月19日に、CDCはアウトブレイクについて記載した初回調査通知を発行した。七面鳥製品の単一の一般的な供給元が特定されなかったため、CDCは消費者に、サルモネラ感染を防ぐために常に適切な食品取り扱い技術に従うことを再認識させた。アリゾナ州、ミシガン州、ミネソタ州での疾患に関連する七面鳥ひき肉および生の七面鳥ペットフードのアウトブレイク株が特定された後、この調査中に4つの七面鳥製品のリコールが発行された。2018年2月と2019年1月に、ミネソタ州を本拠地とする2つの別々のペットフード会社によって、約4,000ポンドの生の七面鳥ペットフードが回収された。さらに、2018年11月と12月に、同じ会社の2つの七面鳥の事業所によって、約300,000ポンドの七面鳥ひき肉製品が回収された。介入は、食肉処理場と加工施設、上流の農場を含む全てのサプライチェーンを対象とする必要がある。公衆衛生機関と業界は、食品の安全性についてより多くの消費者教育を提供するための対策を講じるべきである。
