Respiratory and Ocular Symptoms Among Employees of an Indoor Waterpark Resort — Ohio, 2016

屋内ウォーターパークリゾートの従業員における呼吸器および眼症状 ― オハイオ州、2016年

2015年7月、オハイオ州の複数の保健所に屋内のウォーターパークリゾートの客から呼吸器および眼症状の訴えがあり、これを受けて8月にオンライン調査が行われた。その結果、回答者のうち19名(68％)の顧客と従業員が眼の灼熱感、鼻の刺激感、呼吸困難および嘔吐の症状を訴えたため、2015年8月11日、CDCのNational Institute for Occupational Safety and Healthに調査を依頼、2016年1月、疫学的調査、環境検体採取、換気システム点検を目的に3日間の現地視察が行われた。疫学的調査はリゾートの従業員を対象とし、勤務していた112名の従業員のうち91名(81％)が参加、年齢中央値は19(15～65)歳、47名(52％)が男性であった。48名(53％)に何らかの症状があり、そのうち12名(25％)は中央値で2(1～5)日間仕事を休み、また、7名(15％)が治療を受けた。症状は眼の刺激感(62％)、咳(56％)、鼻の刺激感(51％)が多く認められた。症例基準を満たした29名のうち、24名(83％)はウォーターパークの従業員であり、5名(17％)はウォーターパーク以外の施設(ホテル、バー、アーケード、売店、オフィスエリアなど)の従業員であった。施設内6カ所の空気検体を採取したが、エンドトキシン、塩素およびクロロホルム濃度は職業的曝露の限界値以下であり、平均気温は水環境にて推奨される範囲を下回り、湿度は上回っていた。ウォーターパーク内4カ所から採取した検体の水質化学検査では塩素濃度が基準値(0.2ppm)以上であり、クロラミンの存在が示唆された。風呂、スパの水からレジオネラ、マイコバクテリウム属は検出されなかった。暖房、換気および空調(HVAC)システムの調査では、ウォーターパークのHVACユニット6基のうち5基のファンが作動しておらず、パーク内の空気流が低下していたことが示唆された。屋内のウォーターパークは閉鎖された環境であり、エンドトキシンおよび消毒副生成物による疾患のリスクがあるため、プールなどの水中や空気中の消毒副生成物濃度のモニタリングや換気を維持することが重要である。
