大学でのスポーツ関連傷害 ― アメリカ、2009~10学年度から2013~14学年度
スポーツ関連傷害は、運動選手の健康に長期にわたり影響する可能性がある。全米大学体育協会(NCAA)は、学生運動選手のスポーツ傷害について調査を行った。2013~14学年度、加盟校1,113校においてNCAAチャンピオンシップ競技25種の19,334チームに、478,869名の運動選手が所属した。外部調査委員およびCDCは、NCAA Injury Surveillance Programのデータから、2009~10学年度から2013~14学年度の5学年度にかけて発生した傷害について解析した。選手1名が1回の練習または試合に参加する単位をathlete-exposure (A-Es)と定義すると、毎年、全25競技において練習にて2,886万299 A-Es、試合にて647万2,952 A-Esの暴露機会があったと推計された。この期間に1,053,370件の傷害が発生したことから、年平均にして210,674件、そのうち134,498件(63.8%)は練習中に発生した。全傷害の21.9%が復帰までに7日以上を要し、4.0%は外科的手術、0.9%は救急搬送を要し、試合中の傷害はより重症であった。全傷害のうち約半数が捻挫または肉離れであり、練習に関連し救急搬送を要した傷害の29.4%を占めた。一方、試合に関連し救急搬送を要した傷害は骨折や脱臼が多く(25.8%)、脳震盪は22.0%であった。男子スポーツでは、フットボールにて1年あたり47,199件と最も多く傷害が発生し、試合中の発生率は最も高く1,000 A-Esあたり39.9件であった。男子レスリングは総発生率(1,000 A-Esあたり13.1件)および練習中の発生率(10.2件)が最も高かった。女子スポーツでは体操にて総発生率(10.4件)および練習中の発生率(10.0件)が最も高く、試合中の発生率はサッカー(17.2件)が最も高かった。学生スポーツ傷害の低減のためには、サーベイランスデータに基づいたルールや方針の転換、選手およびコーチを対象とした教育や周知キャンペーンの実施が必要であり、今後のデータ解析の継続が必要である。
