Injuries from Methamphetamine-Related Chemical Incidents — Five States, 2001–2012
メタンフェタミンに関連した化学事故による負傷 ― 5州、2001~2012年
メタンフェタミン(meth)は中毒性の高い薬であるが、容易に入手できる化学薬品から違法に合成することができるため、製造過程での火事や爆発による負傷、周囲の環境汚染などが問題となっている。2001~2012年、ルイジアナ州、オレゴン州、ユタ州、ニューヨーク州およびウィスコンシン州にて、methに関連する化学事故がAgency for Toxic Substances Emergency Events SurveillanceシステムおよびNational Toxic Substance Incidents Programに計1,325件報告されている。年次推移は2001~2004年まで増加した後、2007年までは減少、その後2012年まで再度増加していた。負傷者が出た事故は87件(6.6%)、162名が負傷し、少なくとも26名(16%)は小児であった。病院で治療を受けた負傷者は136名(84%、うち小児19名)、入院した負傷者は36名(22%、うち小児19名)であり、2名(ともに成人)が死亡している。期間別では2001~2004年:32件(4.8%)、負傷者57名、2005~2007年:11件(5.0%)、44名、2008~2012年:44件(10.1%)、61名であり、負傷の種類は呼吸器刺激(44%)、化学熱傷または温度熱傷(27%)、眼刺激(22%)が多かった。また、負傷者は一般人がもっとも多く(97名)、警察官(42名)、事故の起きた場所(ホテル、モーテル、廃ビル)や治療施設の労働者(14名)、消防士(7名)などであり、一般人は熱傷が多く、警察官などは呼吸器刺激や眼刺激が多かった。最近のmethに関連する化学事故の増加は、州による法的措置が結果として近隣の州における違法なmeth製造を増加させているためと考えられ、地域での対策が推奨される。
