Bicyclist Deaths Associated with Motor Vehicle Traffic — United States, 1975–2012

自動車交通事故に関連する自転車運転者の死亡 ― アメリカ、1975～2012年

1975～2012年のFatality Analysis Reporting Systemより衝突事故に関するデータを用いて、自転車運転者の死亡に関する動向を分析した。この期間における自転車運転者の死亡者は29,711名であり、年間死亡者数は1975年の955名から2012年には717名に減少し、年間年齢補正死亡率(10万人あたり)は1975年：0.41から2012年：0.23へ44％低下した。また、自動車事故関連の死亡者は1975年：2.3％から2003年：1.4％に減少し、2012年には2.2％に増加していた。年齢別の死亡率は35歳未満および75歳以上にて低下しており、とくに15歳未満にて大きく低下していた。1975年の15歳未満の死亡率(10万人あたり)は1.18と15歳以上(0.25)に比べ4倍以上の高値であったが、2012年は15歳未満で0.09と92％低下し、他の年齢層の死亡率(0.27)の約1/3となった。35～74歳における死亡率はこの期間において有意に増加し(10万人あたり0.11から0.31)、男女別では男性が女性に比べ約6倍高く、2012年における死亡者の87％は男性であった(1977年：79％、2001年：90％)。州別の死亡率は大きな相違があり、2008～2012年の5年間における死亡率はバーモント州にて最も低く(10万人あたり0.04)、フロリダ州にて最も高かった(同0.57)。以上、サイクリングの普及に伴う多面的な安全対策により自転車運転者の死亡率は減少していた。
