洗濯用洗剤ポッドによる健康ハザード－アメリカ、2012年5～6月

アメリカでは2010年よりポッド型の洗濯用洗剤が市販され、現在では多くの会社が販売している。洗濯用洗剤ポッドは濃縮された液体洗剤を水溶性の膜の中に入れたものであり、水分に触れると膜が溶ける。2012年5月～6月初めにCarolinas Poison CenterおよびPoison Control Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphiaに洗濯用洗剤ポッドを摂取した後、嘔吐、精神状態異常および呼吸困難を起こした小児4例が報告された。CDCとAmerican Association of Poison Control Center(AAPCC)による共同調査の結果、5月17日～6月17日の間に洗濯用洗剤による中毒例はNational Poison Data System(NPDS)に1,008例報告され、うち485例(48%)が洗濯用洗剤ポッドによるものであった。年齢の明らかな992例ではポッド型への曝露例:481例[中央値:3歳(7ヶ月齢～85歳)、平均:3歳、0～5歳:454、6～10歳:17、11～20歳:4、20歳以上:6]、非ポッド型への曝露例:511例[中央値:2歳(19日齢～90歳)、平均:7歳、0～5歳:414、6～10歳:17、11～20歳:25、20歳以上:55]であった。症状は嘔吐が最も多く(ポッド群:55%、非ポッド群:34%)、咳または窒息感(15%、11%)、目の痒みまたは痛み(11%、16%)、赤目/結膜炎(8%、9%)、傾眠または嗜眠(7%、2%)、悪心(6%、4%)などが認められた。洗濯洗剤ポッドへの曝露を避けるには、保護者が小児の目や手の届かない場所に保管すべきであり、医師はポッドによる有害作用の方が非ポッド型より大きいことを認識すべきである。
