High School Students Who Tried to Quit Smoking Cigarettes － United States, 2007

アメリカにおいて喫煙は予防可能な死亡の主因であり、多くの成人喫煙者は18歳未満で喫煙を開始している。青少年喫煙者の多くは比較的喫煙歴が短いにもかかわらずニコチン依存性になっており、その依存性により連日喫煙者となる可能性がある。禁煙を試みた高校生の割合を検討するため、CDCは50州およびワシントンDCの9～12年生の生徒を対象としたYouth Risk Behavior Survey(YRBS)の2007年のデータを分析した。調査前12ヶ月間に連日喫煙(30日間毎日1本以上喫煙)の経験がある生徒の60.9%が調査前12ヶ月間に禁煙を試みていた。禁煙試行率は学年による差はみられなかったが、女性(67.3%)は男性(55.5%)よりも高く、黒人(68.1%) はラテンアメリカ系(54.1%)よりも高かった。全体として連日喫煙経験があり禁煙を試みた生徒のうち12.2%が禁煙(調査前30日間)に成功した。禁煙成功率は性別あるいは人種/民族による差はみられなかったが、学年別では9年生(22.9%)が10年生(10.7%)、11年生(8.8%)、12 年生(10.0%)よりも高かった。高校生の喫煙開始を防ぎ、禁煙率を高め、エビデンスに基づいた禁煙戦略の使用を増加させるためのコミュニティーベースでの介入を持続するには包括的な喫煙抑制プログラムが必要である。
