慢性閉塞性肺疾患による死亡－米国、2000～2005年

慢性閉塞性肺疾患(COPD)は正常な呼吸を妨げる気道閉塞を伴う進行の遅い疾患群である。2005年、米国では死亡者20例中約1例がCOPDを死因としていた。また喫煙はCOPDによる死亡の75%以上に関与すると推定されている。2000～2005年におけるCOPDによる死亡の全国推定値を更新するため、CDCはNational Vital Statistics System(NVSS)のデータを分析した。この期間中、25歳以上の死亡者718,077例がCOPDを死因としていた。2005年のCOPDを死因とした25歳以上の死亡者は126,005例と推定され、2000年の116,494例に比べ8%増加した。この期間中の年齢調整COPD死亡率は全体としては安定していたが、男性は低下し女性は増加した。各年とも死亡率は男性が女性より高かったが(2005年:男性77.3%、女性56.0%)、死亡者数は女性のほうが多かった(2005年:男性60,812例、女性65,193例)。人種別COPD死亡率は白人が他の人種より高く、2005年の死亡率は白人男性が80.2%、黒人男性が63.8%、白人女性が60.3%、黒人女性が29.9%であった。2005年の州別年齢調整COPD死亡率(10万人あたり)は27.1(ハワイ州)～93.6(オクラホマ州)であった。COPDによる死亡者数と死亡率を低下させるため、公衆衛生プログラムは受動喫煙を含む喫煙、作業環境での塵や化学物質、その他のCOPDに関連する屋内外の大気汚染物質への曝露を減少させる努力を続ける必要がある。
