ディレクターによる展望－Jeffery P. Koplan, M.D., P.M.D.、1998～2002年

1998－2002年の間、CDC所長であったDr. Koplanによる60周年を記念した21世紀への将来展望に関する所見。CDCは公衆衛生の基礎となるプログラム（小児へのワクチン接種、感染症などのアウトブレイクに関する報告および調査と発症コントロールなど）を維持すると同時に、新しいプログラムを展開する。慢性疾患の危険因子である肥満の抑制および禁煙プログラム、暴力や殺人に関する教育プログラムおよびこれらのプログラム推進における人種/民族による格差の是正などが挙げられる。さらに、新世紀に向けた新しい基盤として、マスタープラン（職員の勤務施設、勤務環境の整備/改善）、公衆衛生に従事する労働力の増員とその教育/育成、対バイオテロリズム対策、同時多発テロによるアメリカにおけるダメージへの国家的支援などを展開していく。世界的課題としては、STOP（ポリオ伝播の阻止:Stop Transmission of Polio）、世界的AIDSプログラム（GAP）のほか、WHOのTabacco Free Initiativeと共同してGlobal Yourh Tabacco Surveyを実施していく。
