Homicides Among Children and Young Adults － Puerto Rico, 1999-2003

小児および若年成人における殺人－プエルトリコ、1999～2003年

プエルトリコ(2004年人口:390万人)では、殺人が2003年における死因の第12位(男性:5位、女性:15位)に位置し、アメリカ全体の若年成人(15－29歳)における殺人率は1993年:21.6(人口10万人あたり)から2003年:13.4へと減少しているが、プエルトリコでは1993年:49.8から2003年:54.1へと増加している。これを受けてプエルトリコ政府は暴行致死や致死には至らなかった暴行を調査するシステムや予防プログラムの設置など、包括的戦略を展開し、1999－2003年における30歳未満の殺人に関するデータがUniversity of Puerto Rico Center for Hispanic Youth Violence Preventionにより分析された。1999－2003年においてプエルトリコでは計3,613名が殺人により死亡し、うち30歳未満が2,303名(64%)を占めており、男性:2,148(93%、47.7/10万人)、女性:155(7%、3.5/10万人)、年齢別では男女とも20－24歳が最も多く、10万人あたりそれぞれ126.8、7.6であった。30歳未満の被害者において死因は男女とも銃器(男性:90.1%、女性:65.4%)、鋭利な刃物(それぞれ4.6%、21.2%)によるものが多く、季節は7、8月、発生場所は都市部(91.2%)にて多発していた。また、15－19歳では1999年:36.3/10万人から2003年:31.2へわずかに減少したが、25－29歳では1999年:45.0から2003年:66.4へと47.6%増加し、特に男性にて82.9から129.8へと56.7%増加した。
