ハリケーンカトリーナ・リタ後の健康関連ニーズの評価－ルイジアナ州、ニューオーリンズ地域、オルレアンおよびジェファーソン地区、2005年10月17日～22日

ハリケーンカトリーナがニューオーリンズ地域を襲い堤防決壊と洪水が発生してから7週間後、ジェファーソン地区とオルレアン地区の大部分で地域の公共機関が再開した。州および地域の公衆衛生・精神衛生担当機関とCDCは自宅に戻ってきた地域住民の健康関連ニーズを把握するため、2005年10月17日－22日にジェファーソン地区とオルレアン地区の住民166例を対象とし住環境、基本的サービスの利用状況、身体的・精神的健康状態について調査を行った。この期間中、調査対象者の自宅の20.2%は断水、24.5%は停電しており、43.2%は電話が通じなかった。また41.9%は自宅が安全と考えていなかった。さらに55.7%は家族の1名以上が慢性疾患を有しており、成人の49.8%は情動障害を発症していた。この調査結果に基づき、Louisiana Office of Mental Healthはハリケーン生存者への介入・支援をするために危機カウンセリングプログラムを作成し開始した。自然災害後にコミュニティーの状態を評価することで、健康関連ニーズが把握でき、公衆衛生的介入を行うことができる。
