実験室での不注意による炭疽菌への曝露－カリフォルニア,2004年

2004年6月9日、California Department of Health Services(CDHS)は、炭疽菌のマウス免疫反応を研究しているChildren’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute(CHORI)において、不注意による炭疽菌胞子への曝露の可能性を確認した。3月28日より炭疽菌Ames株懸濁液をマウスに投与する実験が行われ、死亡したマウスは冷凍処理され、ケージは洗浄されていた。また、培養された検体はCalifornia Laboratory Response Network(LRN)に送付され、B.anthracisであることが同定されていた。6月9日の調査では、菌液の流出や穿刺傷、動物による咬傷および掻傷は認められなかったが、懸濁液を扱った際にマイクロチューブの蓋、ピペットチップ、遠心分離管が折れ、懸濁液の小さな水滴が放出されたと考えられ、実験台の表面が消毒された。実験に関わった12名のうち、直接接触した可能性のある3名には曝露後予防(ciprofloxacin 500mgまたはdoxycycline 100mg、経口、1日2回、60日間)が行われ、他の9名にも同様の措置が取られた。12名中9名から曝露後3―6週に採取された血清検体は、IgG抗体およびB.anthracis感染防御抗体(PA)ともに陰性であった。
