Experiences with Influenza-Like Illness and Attitudes Regarding Influenza Prevention - United States, 2003-04 Influenza Season

アメリカでは毎年約36,000例がインフルエンザにより死亡しており、その予防法としてワクチン接種の他にヒトからヒトへの感染を予防することが重要とされている。CDCはEmerging Infections Programs(EIP)とともに無作為の電話調査によりインフルエンザ様疾患(ILI)の経験およびその対処法について調査を行った。2004年2月6―22日、11地域200世帯を対象とし、2,231名から回答を得た［年齢中央値43(18―97)歳、女性51.3%］。2003年10月以降、ILIは17.8%が経験し、その症状は咳または咽頭痛を伴う高熱(53.2%)が最も多かった。6ヶ月齢―17歳の小児がいる811世帯では、23.9%がILIを経験し、咳または咽頭痛を伴う高熱を68.9%が経験していた。成人ILI症例の43.3%、小児ILI症例の69.2%が医療機関を受診し、インフルエンザと診断された症例は成人64.5%、小児47.6%であり、成人診断例の85.9%に薬剤が処方された(主に抗生物質33.1%)。医者からマスクをするよう指示された症例は成人で8.2%であった一方、咳をする人は病院でマスクをするべき、と答えた人は62.8%、病人は公共の場でマスクをするべき、と答えた人は59.0%と多かった。また、約70%がワクチンの有効性を信頼していたが、32.8%がワクチンによりインフルエンザにかかると回答し、10.7%はワクチン不足のため接種するのに困難があったと回答していた。また、2004―2005年期には60%がワクチン接種を受けるつもりであると回答し、小児のいる家庭の63.8%が毎年受けると回答した。ワクチンの効果に関する教育的努力、供給と配置の拡充によりワクチンの接種率は改善するであろう。
