休暇期間中の転落関連損傷－アメリカ,2000～2003年

転落関連損傷は年間を通して発生するが、季節的パターンに関する分析研究は少なく、休暇時期の飾り付けに関連した転落損傷について検討した研究はない。飾り付けあるいはその関連活動による非致死性転落損傷の特徴を検討するため、CDCは2000―2003年の冬季休暇シーズン(11月1日―1月31日)3期間のNational Electronic Injury Surveillance System All Injury Program(NEISS-AIP)のデータを分析した。この期間中、アメリカ全体では約17,465例(平均5,822例/シーズン)が飾り付けに関連した転落のため病院救急部(ED)で治療を受けた。全損傷率は人口10万人あたり8.1例であった。全損傷患者の約62%は20―49歳であり、男性(58%)が女性(42%)より多かった。損傷の原因は、7,439例(43%)がはしごからの転落、2,290例(13%)が屋根からの転落、1,906例(11%)がテーブルや椅子などの家具からの転落であった。全体の46%は四肢の損傷であった。EDで検査を受けた大部分の患者(88%)は治療を受け帰宅したが、12%は入院した。最も多い診断は骨折(34%)で、骨折患者の51%ははしごからの転落が原因であった。また、はしごから転落した患者のうち47%が入院した。休暇期間中には、転落に対する注意の喚起と安全な飾りつけ方法の奨励を中心とした転落防止戦略が必要である。
