Tobacco Use Among Middle and High School Students - United States, 2002

中学および高校生の喫煙状況－アメリカ,2002年

アメリカでは毎日約4,400名の青少年(12－17歳)が喫煙を試み、うち1/3が喫煙関連疾患により死亡すると推定されている。今回、American Legacy Foundationにより中学および高校生を対象とした喫煙状況調査National Youth Tobacco Survey(NYTS)の2002年データが報告され、2000年データと比較された。調査対象となった246校、26,119名(中学生:12,581名、高校生:13,538名)のうち、現在タバコ製品使用者は中学生13.3%、高校生28.4%であった。中学生では巻きタバコ(10.1%)が最も多く、次いで葉巻(6.0%)、かぎタバコ(3.7%)、キセル(3.5%)、ビディー(2.4%)、クレテック(2.0%)と続き、女子よりも男子で使用率が高かった。高校生では巻きタバコ(22.9%)、葉巻(11.6%)、かぎタバコ(6.1%)、キセル(3.2%)、クレテック(2.7%)およびビディー(2.6%)の順であった。巻きタバコを除き、高校生ではいずれの製品でも女子よりも男子の使用率が高かった。アジア系の生徒では葉巻の利用が少なく、白人ではかぎタバコの利用が多かった。2000年と比較して、タバコ製品の使用は高校生では34.5%から28.4%に低下したが、中学生では15.1%から13.3%と有意な変化は認められなかった。アメリカでは2003年の喫煙予防に関する予算が8,620万ドル(11.2%)削減されたが、青少年期の喫煙率低下は喫煙関連疾患の罹患率低下につながる重要な因子であるため、予算戻す必要がある。
