Assessment of the Epidemiologic Capacity in State and Territorial Health Departments - United States, 2001

2001年11月－2002年4月、Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologistよりアメリカ50州、ワシントンDCおよび5領土に対してEpidemiology Capacity Assessment(ECA)が送付され、疫学および感染症に対する公共保健機関の許容能力調査が実施された。その結果、41州および3領土から回答が得られた。2001年11月現在、勤務疫学者は1,366名で、652名(47.7%)が感染症分野、50名未満が傷害、職業疫学および口腔衛生分野に従事していた。CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service(EIS)の勤務経験者は77名(5.6%)で、787名(42.4%)は疫学の専門教育を受けていなかった。疫学プログラムに対する州の出費額は$1,150,000－$6,600,000(中央値$2,700,000)で、1人あたり$0.31－$1.73(同$0.70)であった。分野別(感染症、慢性疾患、妊婦/小児衛生、傷害、バイオテロ/緊急事態、環境衛生、口腔衛生、職業疫学)の許容能力調査では、”十分/ほぼ十分”(75－100%)または”ある程度”(50－75%)の能力があるとの回答は、感染症では90%以上、慢性疾患/バイオテロでは約50%、環境衛生/妊婦小児衛生では約40%、傷害/職業疫学では約20%、口腔衛生では約10%であった。バイオテロ、放射能事故、環境その他の災害などの緊急事態に関して”十分/ほぼ十分”と回答した州はそれぞれ4州(9.3%)、2州(4.8%)、3州(7.5%)のみであり、爆発物や自然災害に対して十分対応しうると回答した州はなかった。
