Cigarette Smoking Among Adults - United States, 2001

アメリカの2010年国民健康目標の1つは、成人における喫煙率を12%以下に低下させることである。この目標への進展状況を評価するため、CDCは18歳以上のアメリカ居住者を対象とした2001年National Health Interview Survey(NHIS)の自己報告データを分析した。アメリカ成人における現喫煙者の割合は1993年の25%から2001年には22.8%(4,620万人)に低下した。喫煙率は男性(25.2%)が女性(20.7%)より高かった。人種/民族別の現在喫煙率はアジア系(12.4%)とラテンアメリカ系(16.7%)が最も低く、アメリカインディアン/アラスカ原住民(32.7%)が最も高かった。年齢別では18－24歳(26.9%)と25－44歳(25.8%)が最も高く、65歳以上(10%)が最も低かった。1965年以降の非ラテンアメリカ系黒人における現在喫煙率は非ラテンアメリカ系白人に比べ低下が速やかで、特に男性の現在喫煙率は2000－2001年に非ラテンアメリカ系白人男性と同程度になった(それぞれ27.7%、25.4%)。以上より、成人全体における現在喫煙率は低下していることが示されたが、このままでは2010年国民健康目標は達成できないと考えられる。アメリカにおける喫煙率をさらに低下させるには、教育的、経済的、臨床的かつ規制を設けた戦略を含む禁煙への包括的なアプローチに一層重点を置く必要がある。
