Decline in Annual Incidence of Varicella - Selected States, 1990-2001

水痘はワクチン接種により予防可能な疾患である。1996年からAdvisory Committee on Immunization Practices(ACIP)は12－18ヶ月齢でのワクチン接種と、感受性の高い小児、重篤な合併症の危険を有する疑い例に追加接種を推奨している。今回、CDCはNational Notifiable Disease Surveillance System(NNDSS)1990－2001年の国内4州(イリノイ、ミシガン、テキサス、ウエストバージニア)のデータを分析した。1990－1994年の水痘発症率は1,000人あたり1.1人(テキサス)－3.8人(ミシガン)であったが、1999－2001年は0.3人(テキサス)－0.9人(イリノイ)へと減少傾向を示し、低下率は67%(イリノイ)－82%(ミシガン)となった。2001年の19－35ヶ月齢の小児におけるワクチン接種率はイリノイ57%、ウエストバージニア73%、ミシガン77%、テキサス84%に達し、ワクチン接種率の増加に伴う水痘発症率の顕著な減少が確認された。
