Cigarette Smoking-Attributable Morbidity - United States, 2000

喫煙による死亡率調査を目的に、Roswell Park Cancer Institute、Research Triangle InstituteおよびCDCはBehavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System(BRFSS:1999、2000、2001年)、National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III(NHANES III)およびアメリカ国勢調査(2000年)データを分析した。その結果、2000年では約860万人が約1,270万件の喫煙関連疾患を有しており、現喫煙者(約540万人)では慢性気管支炎(49%)、肺気腫(24%)、心臓発作(13%)、喫煙歴のある人(約730万人)は慢性気管支炎(26%)、肺気腫(24%)、心臓発作(24%)に罹患していた。肺癌は現喫煙者で1%、喫煙歴者で2%と低値であった。現喫煙者および喫煙歴者の約10%が喫煙による慢性疾患を有し、その多くが日常生活や社会的な障害を経験していることが明らかになった。
