中等および高等学校生徒におけるタバコの通常の入手源－テキサス，1998～1999年

テキサス州では、1998－1999年に未成年者(18歳未満)のタバコ入手を減少させるための法律および規制が施行された。その内容としては、未成年者へのタバコ製品の販売および配布の禁止、未成年者にタバコを販売した小売業者に対し罰金を課すこと、未成年者のタバコ製品購入・所有・使用の禁止、自動販売機の設置場所の制限、27歳未満と思われるタバコ購入者に身分証明の確認を要求することが含まれた。CDCは1998年と1999年におけるTexas Youth Tobacco Survey(TYTS)の自己申告データを用いて、テキサス州の中等および高等学校生徒におけるタバコ入手減少状況を分析した。調査前30日間に喫煙した中等学校生徒のうち店および自動販売機でタバコを購入した割合(商業的入手源)は、1998年から1999年にかけてそれぞれ13.2%から5.3%、7.6%から1.7%に減少した。しかし窃盗およびその他の方法(他の人に買ってもらう・他の人から借りる・年長者からもらう以外)での入手は、それぞれ8.3%から12.3%、16.6%から23.3%に増加した。高等学校生徒ではほとんどの入手源で割合に変化はみられなかった。未成年者におけるタバコの入手を減少させるためには、包括的なタバココントロール戦略の一部として小売業者の教育と未成年者のタバコ入手を管理する法律の施行が必要である。
