The International Medical Information Center (IMIC) was established in April 1972 with the aim of contributing to the advancement of medicine and healthcare by conducting and providing high-level information gathering and dissemination both domestically and internationally by serving as a central institution for medical, pharmaceutical, and healthcare information activities in Japan. Since then, we have consistently strived to provide cutting-edge services and to protect the personal information of our supporting members and users.

To further strengthen the protection of personal information, we hereby establish and publicly announce this Privacy Policy to ensure the proper handling of personal information through voluntary rules and systems appropriate to the IMIC’s business objectives.

By ensuring that all officers, employees, and individuals engaged in the IMIC’s operations are fully aware of and comply with the Policy and any personal information protection measures formulated based on the Policy, we aim to provide our supporting members and users with peace of mind when utilizing our services.

Respect for Individuals Regarding Personal Information

We will clearly define the purpose of use for personal information, obtain the consent of the individual before collecting it, use it only to the extent necessary to achieve the stated purpose, and take measures to prevent the handling of personal information beyond that scope. When it is necessary to provide personal information to a third party, we will do so only after obtaining the individual’s consent and only to the extent necessary to achieve the stated purpose. Additionally, we have established a dedicated contact point (see “Contact Us” below) to handle complaints and inquiries regarding personal information from individuals. If an individual requests the disclosure, correction, suspension of use, or suspension of provision of their personal information, we will respond within a reasonable period of time.

Personal Information Protection System

To implement the Policy, we will establish an internal system with clearly defined roles and responsibilities under the supervision of a Personal Information Manager appointed by the IMIC’s representative.

Security Management of Personal Information

All personal information will be properly managed to prevent loss, destruction, alteration, or leakage resulting from unauthorized access, theft, or removal, and we will take necessary preventive and corrective measures. When outsourcing the handling of personal information to external parties, we will enter into confidentiality agreements and manage and supervise them to ensure proper management.
We will also respond appropriately to complaints and inquiries regarding personal information.

Compliance with Laws, Government Guidelines, and Other Standards Regarding Personal Information

We will comply with the “Act on the Protection of Personal Information,” the Japanese Industrial Standard “Personal Information Protection Management Systems—Requirements (JIS Q 15001:2023),” and other laws, government guidelines, and standards regarding the protection of personal information.
