2017年10月、Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices(ACIP)は、2018年にアメリカの19歳以上の成人に推奨される予防接種スケジュールを承認することを決定した。2018年の成人予防接種スケジュールは、ACIP勧告を2つの図および成人に推奨されるワクチンの禁忌と使用上の注意の表にまとめ、現行のACIP勧告を成人の予防接種に実施する医療提供者を支援することを目的としている。成人の予防接種スケジュールは、https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedulesに掲載されている。成人の予防接種スケジュールには成人の予防接種の基本原理、妊婦のような特殊な集団のための判断、参照用の情報資源、ワクチンに関連する有害事象および報告義務のあるワクチン予防可能疾患が疑われる症例の報告の方法などが含まれている。また、図に付随している脚注は、ワクチンの投与回数や投与間隔のような重要な内容を含んでおり、医療提供者には、図と脚注を一緒に使用することを推奨する。前年度のスケジュールからの2018年の成人の予防接種スケジュールの変更には、50歳以上の成人のための組換え型帯状疱疹ワクチン(RZV)の使用、および流行性耳下腺炎アウトブレイク状況での麻疹・流行性耳下腺炎・風疹ワクチン(MMR)の追加投与に関する新たなACIP勧告が含まれる。2017年10月20日、FDAは帯状疱疹およびその合併症を予防するために、50歳以上の成人に対するRZV(SHINGRIX、GlaxoSmithKline)の使用を承認した。 ACIPは、10月25日に、帯状疱疹および関連する合併症の予防のために、1）50歳以上の免疫正常の成人のRZVの使用、2）以前に帯状疱疹生ワクチン(ZVL、ZOSTAVAX、Merck and Co.）を受けた50歳以上の成人のRZV 使用3）60歳以上の成人のRZVまたはZVLの使用(RZVが好ましい)を推奨した。2017年10月26日、ACIPは2018年の成人のスケジュールにおいて、1)過去の帯状疱疹エピソードまたはZVLの投与にかかわらず、50歳以上の成人に2～6カ月間隔でRZVを2回投与、2)過去にZVLを受けた成人では、ZVL後2カ月以上経過後に2～6カ月間隔でRZVを2回投与、3)60歳以上の成人ではRZVまたはZVLを投与(RZVが好ましい)、を推奨した。RZVの臨床試験では、妊娠および疾患（例えば、悪性腫瘍、HIV感染）または治療(例えば、癌化学療法、自己免疫疾患の治療)が原因の確認された、または疑いがある免疫不全状態は除外してある。したがって、妊娠中の女性(医療提供者は、妊婦に対するRZVの投与を遅らせることを考慮すべきである)またはHIV感染を含む免疫不全状態の成人(追加の議論およびACIPによる勧告は保留中)でのRZV使用に関する現在のACIPの勧告はない。さらに、ACIPは10月25日にMMR接種の勧告を更新した。流行性耳下腺炎アウトブレイク中では、高リスクであると公共の保健機関により判定され、流行性耳下腺炎ウイルス含有ワクチン接種が2回以下、またはワクチン接種状態が不明の人は、MMRの1回投与を受ける必要がある。この変更は2018年の成人の予防接種スケジュールに記載されている。
