エボラウイルス病の流行による埋葬方法および墓地管理の改善 ― シエラレオネ、2014年

シエラレオネにおけるエボラウイルス病(Ebola)による死亡者は2015年1月3日の時点で2,500名を超えている。西アフリカでは家族や近所の住民たちが葬儀の準備のために死者の身体に触れ、洗ったりするが、これが感染経路の1つと考えられている。2014年9月、CDCはシエラレオネの保健衛生省(Ministry of Health and Sanitation：MOH)とともに埋葬方法および墓地の管理を視察し、感染リスクを低下させるための標準作業手順書(SOP)を作成、その後SOPの遵守状況について評価を行った。シエラレオネでは遺体の回収に1～5日を要し、Ebola死亡例に十分対応する症例調査、検体回収、埋葬作業は人員不足とともに手順が統一化されていない状況にあることが判明し、さらに遺体の検査方法および検査結果の報告方法の体系的手順も確立していなかった。墓地の土地およびその管理も不適切であり、埋葬方法も安全な手順で行われていなかった。これらの状況から、10月1日、SOPが発効され、10月10日～15日の間に全国14地区において埋葬作業の実情およびSOPの実施に必要な資材などの評価が行われた。その結果、埋葬作業員の直接訓練の必要性および適切な個人保護具(PPE)やその他の物資(塩素、塩素スプレー、遺体回収袋、シャベルなど)、運搬車両を早急に供給する必要性が確認された。10月19日にはイギリス政府の支援により埋葬作業の指令センターが西部都市および地方地区に設立され、作業員の派遣/検体回収の手配/墓地の管理、死亡例の報告に対応する作業員の決定および遺体に関する記録と管理が統一化され、10月31日までには作業チームは全国で70に増加、11月にはポートロコ、ボンバリ、モヤンバ、カムビア、トンコリリ、ケネマ、コインドゥグおよびボー地区にも指令センターが設立され、シエラレオネにおけるEbola死亡例への対応は改善されている。
