Impact of Requiring Influenza Vaccination for Children in Licensed Child Care or Preschool Programs — Connecticut, 2012–13 Influenza Season

就学前の小児は重度のインフルエンザ関連疾患および合併症のリスクが高いことから、コネチカット州では2010年9月、ニュージャージー州に続いて認可保育所のプログラムに参加する6～59カ月齢の乳幼児を対象に、毎年少なくとも1回のインフルエンザワクチン接種を義務付けた。この条例により、6～59カ月齢児におけるワクチン接種率は2009～2010年インフルエンザシーズン:67.8％から2012～2013年シーズン:84.1％へと16.3パーセントポイント増加した(全国平均は57.9から69.8％、11.9パーセントポイント増加)。2007～2008年シーズンのEmerging Infections Programの調査地域(11カ所)のうち、コネチカット州は4歳以下幼児のインフルエンザによる入院率は3番目に多かったが(58.6/100,000)、2012～2013年シーズンには少なくなり7番目となった(51.5/100,000)。2012年12月末において、認可保育所に通う6～59カ月齢児55,640名のうち、87.1％が少なくとも1回以上のワクチン接種を受けており、5.1％の小児は宗教的、医学的理由からワクチン接種が免除されていた。以上、コネチカット州では小児に対する接種義務によりインフルエンザワクチン接種率が向上し、インフルエンザによる死亡率が低下した。
