10~24歳の年齢層における殺人率-アメリカ、1981~2010年
殺人はアメリカにおいて10~24歳の年齢層における3大死因の一つである。2010年には4,800件の発生があり、その損失は将来生産額および医療費を併せ約90億ドルと推計される。CDCはNational Vital Statistics Systemのデータから30年間(1981~2010年)の10~24歳の年齢層における殺人の傾向を解析した。10万人あたり殺人率は1985年(8.7)~1993年(15.9)には83%上昇し、1994年(15.2)~1999年(8.9)には41%低下、2000~2010年は各年約1%と緩やかではあるが有意に低下し、2010年(7.5)は30年間で最も低い殺人率であった。この年齢層の中でも20~24歳、男性、黒人の殺人率が高く、2010年における10万人あたり殺人率は各々13.2、12.7、28.8であった。79%(64~85%)が銃器による殺人であった。2000~2010年の期間でさらに詳細に解析したところ、男性が女性に比べ有意に高く、人種/民族別では非ヒスパニック系黒人における殺人率が最も高く、非ヒスパニック系白人が最も低かった。年齢層では20~24歳が最も高く、10~14歳で最も低かった。全体として殺人率の改善が見られるものの、これら高リスク群では改善が緩やかである。若年層における暴力行為や麻薬犯罪は殺人率と相関が認められており、抑止のために引き続き公衆衛生、法曹、教育、経済およびコミュニティの連携による介入が必要と考えられる。
