Occupational Phosphine Gas Poisoning at Veterinary Hospitals from Dogs that Ingested Zinc Phosphide － Michigan, Iowa, and Washington, 2006-2011

獣医院でのリン化亜鉛を摂取した犬による職業性ホスフィンガス中毒－ミシガン州、アイオワ州、ワシントン州、2006～2011年

殺鼠薬のリン化亜鉛(Zn3P2)は、胃酸との相互作用により非常に毒性の高いホスフィン(PH3)ガスを放出する。Zn3P2を誤って摂取したペットは嘔吐時に空気中にホスフィンを放出する可能性があり、このような動物を治療する獣医院のスタッフはPH3ガス中毒を発症する危険性がある。2006～2011年、CDCのNational Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)は3州の4つの獣医院(ミシガン州:2、アイオワ州:1、ワシントン州:1)からPH3中毒の報告を受けた。これらの獣医院ではスタッフ8名がPH3ガスに曝露し、PH3吸入に関連した一過性の中毒症状(息切れ、頭痛、めまいなど)を発症した。中毒の重症度は8名全て軽度(無治療で改善、休職期間3日未満)であった。4匹の犬は全て完全に回復した。この4件のイベントは、Zn3P2を摂取した犬を治療した獣医院のスタッフにおける職業性PH3中毒の初めての報告である。獣医院のスタッフは、診療時のPH3曝露のリスクとAmerican Veterinary Medical Association(AVMA)が作成したホスフィン産物予防策を意識する必要がある。またペットおよびペットの飼い主、獣医院のスタッフにおけるPH3曝露は、Zn3P2の適切な保管・取り扱い・使用や他の駆除法の使用によって最小限にすることが可能である。
