Completion of National Laboratory Inventories for Wild Poliovirus Containment － Region of the Americas, March 2010

国立研究機関の介入による野生型ポリオウイルス封じ込めの完了－アメリカ地域、2010年3月

1988 年5月、World Health Assemblyは野生型ポリオウイルス(WPV)の世界的伝播の根絶を発表し、2006年までにアフガニスタン、インド、ナイジェリア、パキスタンを除く全ての国々にて常在性WPVの伝播は終息している。しかし、研究用のWPV検体への感染によりWPV再導入の危険があることから、WPV検体を取り扱う研究施設を対象に、研究室封じ込め活動の第1段階として研究室の調査と保有記録の作成が行われた。ここでは2001～2010年におけるWHOのアメリカ地域に属する国や領土での第1段階の終了について報告する。調査は生物医学施設(n=67,362)のうち、高リスクまたは中リスク施設に分類された 15,541施設(高リスク:4,313、中リスク:11,228)全てと、低リスク施設(n=51,821)のうち44,077施設(85.1%)、計 59,618施設を対象に行われた。施設の内訳はウイルス学、大学、研究または公衆衛生施設:2,629、病院関連施設:10,372、臨床診断施設:41,438、環境、工業施設:5,179であった。調査前の検体保有に関しては高/中リスク施設では不明であるが、調査後の検体保有施設は215施設(アメリカ:180、カナダ:8、ブラジル:6、コスタリカ:6、アルゼンチン:5、メキシコ:4、グアテマラ:3、チリ:2、トリニダード・トバゴ:1)であり、3月5日の時点にてアメリカ地域での第1段階活動は完了した。今後、前出4カ国でのWPV根絶が確認された後、封じ込め活動は第2段階に入り、ここでは長期的な世界的根絶および封じ込めの認定が行われる。
