2007年5月20日～9月15日、WHOおよびNational Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System(NREVSS)研究所で検査された気道検体21,029検体中398検体(1.9%)がインフルエンザウイルス陽性であり、このうち、330株(83%)はインフルエンザA、68株(17%)はインフルエンザBであった。サブタイプ分析されたインフルエンザAウイルス152株中67株(44%)はインフルエンザA(H1)、85株(56%)はインフルエンザA(H3)であった。同期間中のインフルエンザ様疾患(ILI)による外来受診率(0.6%～1.0%)は全国基準値(2.1%)以下を維持しており、122Cities Mortality Reporting Systemに報告された肺炎およびインフルエンザ(P&I)による死亡率も流行閾値を下回っていた。Influenza-Associated Pediatric Mortality Reporting Systemには、6月にインフルエンザによる死亡小児1例が報告された。この期間中、世界ではインフルエンザA(H1)、インフルエンザA(H3)、インフルエンザBが流行していた。分離株の抗原解析では、5月20日～9月8日に採取されたインフルエンザA(H1)ウイルス4株は全て2007-08インフルエンザワクチンのH1N1成分であるA/Solomon Islands/3/2006に類似していた。インフルエンザA(H3)ウイルスについては、94株中17株(18%)は2007-08インフルエンザワクチンのH3N2成分であるA/Wisconsin/67/2005と類似していたが、77株(82%)はA/Wisconsin/67/2005に対する力価が低下していた。鳥インフルエンザA(H5N1)ウイルスのヒト感染例は2007年5月20日～9月10日に21例がWHOに報告されており、このうち14例(67%)が死亡した。全例がアジア(アゼルバイジャン、カンボジア、中国、インドネシア、イラク、ラオス、タイ、トルコ、ベトナム)とアフリカ(ジブチ、エジプト、ナイジェリア)からの報告であり、アメリカではヒト感染例は確認されていない。
