Fatal Injuries Among Volunteer Workers - United States, 1993-2002

ボランティア労働者の致命傷－アメリカ、1993～2002年

アメリカでは約5,900万人が年52時間(中央値)ボランティア活動をしている。ボランティア活動中の致命傷に関しては、Peace Corpsなどの特定の団体にて調査されているが、今回、CDCは1993-2002年のBureau of Labor Statistics(BLS) Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries(CFOI)データを分析し、ボランティアの致命傷に関する調査を行った。この期間、ボランティア活動中の外傷による死亡例は501例であり、職業別では消防士:185例(37%)、非建築関係労働者:35例(7%)、パイロット/ナビゲーター:24例(5%)が多く、他に宗教関係者、建築関係労働者、トラック運転手、農場労働者などが続いていた。活動内容は車の運転中が最も多く(100例、21%)、消火活動:76例(15%)、車同乗時:37例(7%)、飛行機操縦時:22例(4%)、道路歩行時:15例(3%)、救助または避難時:15例(3%)などの順であった。死亡時年齢は41歳(中央値)、男性が436例(87%)を占めており、ボランティアの死亡率はフルタイム換算人口10万人あたり3.2であり、年齢別では20-24歳:7.4、25-34歳:6.5と雇用労働者の年間死亡率に比べ約2倍高値であった(それぞれ3.5、3.9)。ボランティアまたは有償スタッフを労働させる場合には、潜在的危険性を認識させ、その安全対策を遵守するようにボランティア活動をモニタリングする必要がある。
