Salmonellosis Associated with Pet Turtles - Wisconsin and Wyoming, 2004

ペットのカメに関連したサルモネラ症－ウイスコンシン州およびワイオミング州,2004年

アメリカでは1970年代に小型ペットガメに関連したサルモネラ症が問題となったため、1975年にFDAは小型カメ(甲羅長:4インチ未満)の商業販売を禁止した。この販売禁止令により、小児におけるサルモネラ症は毎年約10万例予防されている。しかし、最近再び小型カメが販売されるようになっている。この報告では、ウイスコンシン州とワイオミング州で報告された小型カメとの関連が明らかになったサルモネラ症6例の調査結果などについて述べる。2004年7月―8月、ウイスコンシン州では4例(4歳女児、2歳男児とその母親、10歳男児)、ワイオミング州で発生した2例(80歳女性、6歳男児)のサルモネラ症患者が、小型カメを購入・飼育していたことが明らかになった。これら患者の報告を受け、Wisconsin Division of Public Healthは地域の健康局にサルモネラ症と小型カメとの関係について注意を促す文書を送り、公衆衛生局には小型カメの販売を中止させるよう依頼した。またWyoming Department of Health は2005年夏に州にある全てのペットショップに爬虫類とSalmonellaに関する情報を郵送する計画を立てている。健康局と環境局は小売店などでの小型カメの違法な販売を防止し、サルモネラ患者を診察する場合にはカメとの接触について考慮する必要がある。
