高齢者における天然歯保持率－アメリカ,2002年

過去数十年間、天然歯を保持している高齢者の割合は着実に増加している。この傾向は今後も続くと予想され、これにより口腔機能やQOLが改善されると考えられる。2002年における65歳以上の天然歯の保持率および喪失率を評価するため、CDCはBehavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System(BRFSS)の調査データを分析した。天然歯の大部分を保持(喪失歯5本以内)している高齢者の割合を州別にみると27%(ウエストバージニア州)－64%(ユタ州)と州によって差があったが、26州(52%)は50%以上であった。また高齢者における歯の保持率は高学歴者(46－64%)より高校未満の学歴の者(31%)、高所得者(41－73%)より年間世帯所得15,000ドル未満の者(30%)、非ラテンアメリカ系白人(53%)またはラテンアメリカ系(53%)より非ラテンアメリカ系黒人(30%)、非喫煙者(59%)または禁煙者(47%)より喫煙者(31－33%)、非糖尿病者(53%)より糖尿病患者(42%)、全身健康状態が良好－優良の者(56%)よりある程度健康あるいは健康不良の者(38%)で低値であった。高齢者は歯の保持に伴いう蝕および歯周病のリスクを有する。健康な歯の維持を支援するために、地域密着型戦略として健康的な行動、フッ化物の適切な使用、タイムリーな検査や臨床サービスを推進し、口腔疾患予防と成人の口腔内の健康促進についてさらに研究する必要がある。
