小児期B型肝炎ワクチン接種への世界的な進展－2003年

1992年、WHOは1997年までに小児期ワクチン接種プログラムにB型肝炎ワクチンを導入することを全ての国の目標とした。ワクチン接種プログラムに関する最新完全データ(2001年)によると、WHO加盟国191ヶ国中126ヶ国(66%)が乳児あるいは小児期B型肝炎ワクチン接種プログラムを導入しており、これらプログラムによる1歳未満の小児のB型肝炎ワクチン3回接種率は32%と推定された。この接種率をWHO管轄6地域別にみると、西太平洋地域65%、アメリカ地域58%、ヨーロッパ地域45%、東地中海地域41%、東南アジア地域9%、アフリカ地域6%であった。2003年5月現在、WHO加盟国192ヶ国中151ヶ国(79%)が小児期B型肝炎ワクチン接種方針を採用している。このうち137ヶ国から接種データが得られ、76ヶ国(55%)は出生直後の初回ワクチン接種を採用していることが明らかになった。また従来より慢性B型肝炎ウイルス感染率が高いWHO加盟国89ヶ国中64ヶ国(72%)が乳児期B型肝炎ワクチン接種を採用しており、うち34ヶ国(53%)は出生直後のワクチン接種を採用していた。B型肝炎ワクチン接種の世界的目標は2007年までに全ての国にワクチンが導入され、2010年までにB型肝炎ワクチン3回接種率が90%に達することであり、その目標達成のためには今後さらなる努力が必要である。
