Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections Among Competitive Sports Participants - Colorado, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Los Angeles County, 2000-2003

2003年2月、コロラド州のフェンシングクラブメンバーとその家族、計5例[確診例3例、疑診例2例、フェンサー4例、家族1例、年齢中央値31(11－51)歳、男2女3]がメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌(MRSA)感染症を発症した。1例は菌血症を伴う傍脊柱筋炎のため11日間入院、他の4例は脚部/大腿(n=4)、腹部(n=3)、腋窩/臀部/手/膝の裏(n=各1)などに膿瘍を認め、3例が入院し抗生物質静注により回復した。このクラブでは敵の武器の接触を記録するセンサー(服の下に着用する)を共用していた。また、2000年9月ペンシルベニア州、2002－2003年秋冬インディアナ州およびカリフォルニア州ロサンゼルスにおいて、大学/高校のフットボール部員とレスリング部員からMRSA感染が報告された。ペンシルベニアの大学フットボールチームでは培養陽性および軟部組織感染を10例に認め、うち7例が入院した。危険因子として芝生との摩擦による火傷および髭剃りによる外傷とバスタオルの共用が特定された。ロサンゼルスでは大学フットボール選手2例がMRSAに感染し入院、1例はデブリードメントおよび皮膚移植を行った。感染源として皮膚外傷、香膏、コールドクリームの共有等が挙げられている。インディアナ州では高校のレスリング部員2例がMRSAに感染したが、2例に直接的な接点はなく、用具の共有が感染源と考えられている。
